Japan

[edit]

No mention that Gossage played the 1990 season in Japan for the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks? FriedBunny 15:25, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goose Gossage Is Not Dead

[edit]

Some people have been spreading a rumor that Goose Gossage is dead. He's not. Just wanted to keep this here to stop any spreading of a rumor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.117.123.222 (talk) 20:40, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reminds me of when John Mackey was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame; a phone message was left at his hotel informing him that he was being inducted, but when he picked up the message the clerk got it wrong and told that the message was "You've been indicted." Rename

[edit]

Does any body think the name of the page should be moved to Goose Gossage. I just wanted to see if anybody agreed. --[[Adam Penale]] (talk) 22:46, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've considered the issue, but during his career he was always officially listed as Rich, so I think that's the more appropriate title. MisfitToys (talk) 23:14, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Goose and Rich were his media names. He actually goes by Rick. I was reminded of that during his Hall of Fame induction speech when he called himself that. In his later years playing, he tried to get the media to start calling him Rick. Ironically, he talked about how good a friend Dick Allen had been to him in his early days. Allen was known as Richie to the media. Trying to get the media to change their ways is about as effective as trying to eat broth with a fork. Although this 1981 SI writer got it right: [1] Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 15:57, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know it's been a year since this was (barely) discussed, but I think it should be changed, as Goose is what he is more commonly known as. --Muboshgu (talk) 03:56, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nickname

[edit]

In an interview, Gossage stated that his nickname "goose" is not a result of a play on his last name, but a name that was given to him early in his career by a roomate and fellow teammate of his. He said the player he was living with said he looked like goose when he was on the mound taking signals. Thats why he started calling him "goose" (Nightwing040 (talk) 13:39, 19 August 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Not Buyin' It

[edit]

Who says Gossage lives in Colorado? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.121.47.119 (talk) 08:53, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gossage stated in his Yankeeography that he lives and owns a business in Colorado. He made numerous references to Elk hunting in the offseason there and in his retirement (Nightwing040 (talk) 13:44, 19 August 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Team Transitions

[edit]

I think it would add value to the article to add reason and the how and why of each transition between teams of his career. As I recall, he transitioned to the New York Yankees as a Free Agent. Wfoj3 (talk) 21:00, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're 100% right. The article's lead looks pretty good, but the career section is overly focused on his time with the Yankees, not even mentioning his tenures with the White Sox and Pirates, nor including his other trades. I can put that on my to do list, and you can also help add if you find sources. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:16, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the basics. More details can be found, though. I'm a little busy with other things at the moment, but I can get to it at some point if noone else does. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:38, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gossage's comments, Bautista and others

[edit]

This does need to be added, I'm just not prepared to write it atm.[1] – Muboshgu (talk) 04:32, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
